UPHOLSTERED FABRIC
Kilim is of Turkish origin from the area of Anatolia, known as one of the great crossroads between ancient civilizations. Kilim is a word used to describe a pileless textile produced by one of the several flat weaving techniques. This woven fabric is traditionally used for rugs or tapestries but is becoming more popular for unconventional uses in fashion. Commonly made with wool, kilim can sometimes be made with cotton or silk. Working Kilim into designs adds a certain raw and unfinished character that can only be attained with this type of fabric.
Canvas is a plain-woven fabric typically made out of cotton and, to a lesser extent, linen. Canvas is made by tightly weaving yarns together in a plain weave, which is a very basic textile weave. Canvas is known for being durable and heavy duty as the fibers used in canvas are thicker, which is what separates canvas from other cotton fabrics.
ACCENTS
Sadaf is an Arabic word meaning Mother of Pearl. Mother of pearl is a smooth, iridescent substance forming the inner layer of the shell like oysters and abalones. We use Mother of Pearl Inlay as a signature in our designs to create ornamentation. The iridescence creates a striking contrast with the genuine leather used.
Embrioded Beadwork are hand-beaded by the women of Arish from North Sinai who have mastered the skill. We use beadwork to accentuate our designs. Each embroided design takes an average of two weeks to create and no two pieces are alike as the artisans have the freedom to craft their own unique designs.
Recycled Fabric Taking inspiration from Egyptian Bedouins, our recycled fabric is used to add character to the handles of some of our designs. The fabric is made from Old Bedouin Jalabiya. The embroidered detailing showcases the traditional nomadic patterns and designs that the Jalabiya’s traditionally hold.
